School Night is a music night hosted by The Drake to showcase local artists and is curated to cater to post-secondary students in Toronto. I was asked to cover one of their marquee shows in February, 2020 which featured a talented lineup of Alex Bent, Sylo Nozra & Sabby Sousa.
For this project, I shot the artists performing and then created collages to create vivid snapshots of each of their sets. I challenged myself to try and capture as much of the live experience through the photos. When shooting, I made technical adjustments to increase the feeling of movement, haziness and colours to give the photos an almost ‘dream-like’ finish. When arranging the layouts, I wanted to create a cohesive snapshot of each set and further extend the dreamy aesthetic by incorporating many related visual elements.
I am very happy with the final collages as they convey my memory of the show and invoke the feelings I felt during their performances. I would like to develop more cohesive galleries like this for live shows in the future.
