Missing Frames – Experimental Anaglyphs
Missing Frames is an exploration into creating 3d photos/anaglyphs with the use of a single photo. While 3d photos are typically created with cameras that can capture stereoscopic images, this project wanted to explore the possibility of achieving a similar effect using single shot photos that don’t require any special equipment. The photos used as reference were stills from Karel Chladek’s nightlife series.
To achieve the final result, I created a custom workflow incorporating a variety of tools that helped in taking a single photo and generating multiple frames and layers independent of one another. I then was able to manipulate these layers in an automated way to get the desired effect. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome and would like to use Missing Frames as a start for creating similar content on my own.
Task
Generate a new workflow to synthesize anaglyph/3d photo effects using a single reference photo.
